Admission to the MSMP Program is by referral and administrative approval only.

Applicant Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Current or Recent Enrollment
    • Be currently enrolled in, on an approved leave of absence from, or enrolled during the immediately preceding academic year in the RVU MCOM Program. 
    • Students who have withdrawn, been academically dismissed, or are on a leave of absence related to academic performance remain eligible, provided they were enrolled during the current or immediately preceding academic year. 
  2. Academic Participation
    • Have attempted at least two semesters of coursework in the MCOM Program. 
  3. Degree Status
    • Have not been awarded the degree associated with their original program of enrollment. 
  4. Professionalism Standing
    • Be in good non-academic and professionalism standing, as determined by the student's current or most recent program. 

Application and Admission Process

Admission to the MSMP Program follows a three-step review process.

Step 1. Student Affairs Consultation

Students considering the MSMP Program must first meet with their Dean of Student Affairs or designee.

The consultation includes:

  • Review of the student's academic and professionalism history. 
  • Discussion of the circumstances leading to consideration of the MSMP Program. 
  • Evaluation of the student's educational and career goals. 
  • Discussion of available support resources, including career counseling, academic support services, learning specialists, mental health services, tutoring, and coaching when and where available. 

If the student wishes to continue exploring the MSMP Program and appears eligible, the Student Affairs representative will refer the student to the MSMP Program Director for an exploratory meeting, if the student wishes to proceed.

Step 2. MSMP Program Review Meeting

Prior to the Program Review meeting with the MSMP Program Director, the student must submit:

  • An MSMP program application. 
  • A Letter of Recommendation from their campus Dean of Student Affairs or designee in the official MSMP Program format
  • An unofficial RVU transcript. 

During the review process, the MSMP Program Director will:

  • Evaluate the student's prior coursework using the approved course articulation (crosswalk) document. 
  • Determine which completed courses satisfy MSMP degree requirements. 
  • Identify any remaining degree requirements. 
  • Discuss the MSMP Comprehensive Examination requirement and any approved equivalency options. 
  • Review degree completion expectations and anticipated timelines. 
  • Discuss the MSMP Acknowledgement Form

Step 3. Admission Decision and Matriculation

Final admission decisions are made by the MSMP Program Director.

Before admission can be approved, the Program Director will:

  • Confirm that all remaining degree requirements have been clearly communicated to the student. 
  • Review the academic and professionalism expectations for successful completion of the MSMP degree. 
  • Verify that the student has not already earned the degree associated with their original program of enrollment. 
  • Verify that the student is no longer enrolled in their original RVU graduate healthcare professional program. 

Because dual enrollment is not permitted, students must formally withdraw from their original program before matriculating into the MSMP Program.

Before matriculating, each student must sign an acknowledgment (MSMP Acknowledgement Form) confirming that the student understands that matriculation requires formal withdrawal from the originating RVU Program, and that failure to pass the Comprehensive Examination and any permitted remediation will result in dismissal from the MSMP Program without award of a degree. Dismissal under this provision is academic in nature and is not a disciplinary action. Credits previously articulated to the MSMP transcript are retained regardless of dismissal.
