HUM 5510: Qigong and Osteopathic Practices and Principles

This elective is a prerequisite of the 4 part, 100 hour course that is required for certification in QiGong for Healthcare.  This elective course provides osteopathic medical students with an in-depth exploration of QiGong, an ancient healing practice with roots in China that integrates gentle movement, breathing techniques, and meditative intention.  The course emphasizes the supportive synergy between QiGong and osteopathic principles, highlighting the holistic approach to health and wellness shared by both practices.  Students will learn the fundamentals of QiGong, including its historical background, theoretical foundations, and practical applications.  Through experiential learning, students will practice QiGong techniques, enhance their understanding of the body’s self healing mechanisms, and integrate osteopathic principles into their QiGong practice.  The course aims to develop student’s’ skills in promoting physical, emotional, and energetic balance in themselves and in their patients. This course equips students with the knowledge and skills to incorporate QiGong exercises into their osteopathic practice, enhancing their ability to promote holistic health and wellness in their patients with easy to learn moves they can take home with them to extend the clinical healing experience.
