HUM 5521: Foundations of Cultural Competency

This elective course offers osteopathic medical students a deep dive into the principles and practices of cultural competency, with a special focus on applications in global, rural, wilderness, underserved, and tribal healthcare settings.  The course is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide culturally sensitive and effective care to diverse patient populations.  Through interactive lectures, case studies, simulations, and field experiences students will learn to navigate and address the unique cultural dynamics that influence healthcare delivery.  This course prepares future physicians to advocate for and implement culturally competent practices, thereby improving health outcomes and fostering trust within various communities.
