This course would be appropriate for any student interested in a career in medical education as well as preparing them for using Simulation during their residency training. The 2-week course can be taken consecutively or non-consecutively depending on the needs of the student and the Office of SIMS (Simulation in Medicine and Surgery) (see Course Specific Policies below). The course emphasizes acquiring competency in the following skills:
Writing Simulation Scenarios
Proper pre-briefing and debriefing techniques including but not limited to the PEARLS debriefing tool
Participating in and evaluation of other RVU students’ case presentations
Familiarity with various modalities used in simulation including but not limited to: Virtual reality (Oxford Medical Simulation and Perspectus Anatomy), high fidelity manikins, task trainers (auscultation, joint injection, GU examination/procedure, etc.), Cut suit surgical trainer, moulage; EMS software for live actor events
